Joint High Level Community Meeting: Electricity and Grid Models, 17 March 2026, 08:30 - 09:15 (CAT)
As part of the three-day high level community meeting, jointly hosted by the Presidential Climate Commission (PCC), Climate Compatible Growth (CCG), and African Energy Futures (AEF), Prof. Bernard Bekker presented Stellenbosch University’s grid modelling project, and shared preliminary results that showed that a grid-aware model makes counterintuitive recommendations for where to locate new wind, PV and battery capacity.
